Probyn has been successfully working with licence holders who trust our broad industry experience to understand all aspects of the business. We work with our clients to create a long-term forestry enterprise that meets the clients established goals. This includes engaging with government ministries to acquire harvesting licences, working with our clients to identify operating areas, and applying for cutting permits.
Prior to logs being harvested we will walk targeted timber stands to determine the best harvesting strategy for achieving the highest net return to the clients. This will include an assessment for poles, house logs or other value-added products. Additionally, we will complete a timber valuation that optimizes end use sorts.

At Probyn, we are experienced at guiding and collaborating with licensees to deploy local forestry training, create a robust hiring plan and mentor forestry managers who can internalize operations management. We develop and support licensees in building their own forestry operation.
Our ability to expertly locate and access specialty markets for the timber that comes from the BC Coast is unrivalled. With over 50 years of providing log marketing services, we have developed an effective conduit between our clients and buyers. Markets are always changing and with our experience and large customer base we are able to make sure the logs are sold to the best market. This process requires planning well in advance of the timber being harvested and requires flexibility as markets may change throughout the project. In addition, with the large amounts of volumes that we sell each year, we can sort logs into a larger number of products to hit more markets and thus maximize returns.
Probyn offers comprehensive forestry financing services at competitive rates to ensure our partners have a consistent, efficient and seamless experience working with us. Most projects have large upfront costs that need to be financed. The ability to finance these costs is a significant barrier to many licence holders which we can help with. In addition, we will manage payments to make sure everyone is paid on time.
Probyn records and reports all relevant project costs and sales using its custom ERP “Logbook” software. Logbook provides a detailed and transparent view of all activity including expenses, inventory, and sales. Updates are sent out monthly and can be generated at any time upon request. Clients find it a great way to present results and simplifies any necessary reporting requirements
Probyn is BC Forest Safety Council SAFE certified and promotes forest stewardship in all projects. We hire SAFE certified contractors to ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation Act requirements and designate a Prime Contractor to be accountable
for safe work practices at each work site. Our third party service providers are checked to ensure WorkSafe BC premiums are not in default and we keep copies of their general liability insurance in our office.
